Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How is Sx Calf Oral Electrolyte and Nutritional Supplement different from any other electrolytes for dehydrated calves?

Sx Calf contains at least four compounds not found in other products on the market. These compounds act synergistically with each other to normalize the flora of the gut and promote rapid rehydration of the animal.

All other electrolytes are sold as solid mixes – Sx Calf is a liquid- How do I use it?

Sx Calf is fed via a drench gun or disposable syringe placed in the oral cavity. 50 ml is fed directly into the back of the throat.

How does Sx Calf work?

We know that it promotes rapid rehydration of the animal. The four compounds whose formulae are patented, nor found in other electrolytes, we hypothesize, balance the microbial flora of the animal gut. Complex studies involving an analysis of the gut flora by microbiomics are now underway at Colorado State University Vet School and the University of Minnesota Department of Animal Science. In due time we expect to have more specific and detailed information to answer this important question.

I treated a calf and didn’t see much improvement – what is happening?

Scours in calves is mainly caused by pathogenic bacteria namely E. coli and Salmonella sp. Sx Calf is especially effective in hydrating calves that have this etiology. If your calf is infected with a parasite such as Coccidiaosis or Cryptosporidium you may have to do multiple feedings to get complete rehydration. This is the case of viral causes.

What is the shelf life of Sx Calf?

The product contains a shelf preservative and the label lists a best by date. It should be stored at room temperature out of direct sunlight, do not freeze.

Where can I buy Sx Calf?

The product is available through animal health distributors and retailers, it is also available in feed, and farm and ranch stores. Also, vet supply outlets and major animal health providers carry the product.  Sx Calf is also available online.

Can Sx Calf be used on other farm animals?

Sx formulae are being developed for other farm animals including dogs, cats, horses, pigs, and sheep. Many of these we expect to be on the market shortly.

Can Sx Calf be administered intravenously?
